Ferreting out Fake News
If you'd like to engage with the students about Fake News, but don't know where to start, here's a handy one-pager from the teacher librarian magazine. It's a well-trusted source: after all, librarians know everything and never lie, right?
This is the link to '3 tips for identifying fake news'
This is the link to the Paul Horner article mentioned on the first line of the poster (if you don't have an account, you can read the article for free)
For a longer read, take a look at the Bill Ferriter article, also mentioned in the poster. The tips on how to spot a fake story are about halfway down the article.
If you'd like to steer the students towards a great news resource, I'd recommend The Day

Apps
EasyBib is available as an app to download. Using the camera on your iPad2, hover over the barcode (ISBN) on the back cover of a book. The app automatically scans the barcode, and creates an MLA citation, which can be copied, emailed, or filed.
Genius Scan (€0.79 ) Genius Scan is a basic scanning app that lets you scan a document to jpg or PDF. The file can be emailed or uploaded to Dropbox, Evernote and Google Docs. It costs 99-cents and brings the functionality of a copier to your iPad. There's also a free version that doesn't support documents uploads and contains ads. ECIS MFL and Libraries![]()
